It’s December & finally time for #TheThreeGlasses December post y’all! For this post, I am so excited to share our Christmas traditions we had growing up as well as a Christmas recipe. We’re doing something fun for this post & here is how it will work…
My cousins (@Sunshineandblushwine & @chicbutsouthern) and I will each be sharing one of our favorite Christmas recipes! But the fun part is that they will all correspond. With that being said… you can head to Sunshineandblushwine.com to see what Amy is cooking up for a main entrée and follow up at Chicbutsouthern.com to see what is for desert!
But for now check out one of my favorite appetizers to serve around this time of year…
Cheesy Puff Pastry Jalapeño Bites
- 1 cup grated mature cheddar cheese
- 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 onion sauteed until soft and translucent
- ½ cup pickled jalapenos finely chopped
- 400 g/14 oz puff pastry thawed
- 1 beaten egg
Pre-heat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF.
Roll the thawed puff pastry into a rectangle on a floured surface. Cut into 12 small-medium sized squares (big enough to fit into a mini-muffin/pastry tray.
Place a square of pastry into each muffin hole.
Combine all the ingredients for the filling and mix well.
Spoon the filling onto the pastry then fold over the corners of the puff pastry, pinching in the middle.
Brush with beaten egg then place in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
I came across this recipe on Pinterest about two years ago & it has been one of my favorites ever since then. You can find the original recipe HERE.
#TheThreeGlasses Christmas Traditions
As many of you know… Amy, Kailey & I are all cousins. We have many Christmas traditions not only us, but all of the grandchildren and the rest of our family share together.
Annual Christmas Eve Party
Since I have been born, I have spent Christmas Eve at my grandmothers house. It is something I look forward to every year for sure. I get to see family, fill my belly with good food, and of course get hyped for what is to come the next day!
Annual White Elephant Game
I’m sure many of you have heard of the game White Elephant. It is a huge tradition every Christmas at the party. I look forward to this game every year because my family always brings the coolest and neatest and one of a kind gifts.
Annual Gas Station Run
Although this tradition has retired since the grandkids have grown, this is one of my absolute favorite traditions. Amy has always been the older cousin that my sister, Kailey & myself has looked up too. Not only did she have the cutest personality but the best fashion sense as well! She was always the one bringing Kate Spade gift sets or Louis Vuitton nail polish to the white elephant and always was dressed to the T for every family gathering. Anyways, she started a tradition when we were younger that she would take us down the street to the gas station every Christmas Eve to get hot chocolate and candy. This is something all the kids looked forward to every year and lasted quite a while. That is until we grew out of the hot chocolate and into cocktails…
A Platter of pickles
My sister Micala is the one to think for this tradition. Her whole life her favorite snack has been pickles. So every year my grandmother made sure to have a platter of pickles at the party for her and the other grandkids. My grandmother is polish so the platter obviously consisted of polish styled pickles which are the absolute best if you haven’t tried them yet!
